2021 passed and we’re already in 2022, having a look back what happened and of course having a look into our future!
2021 was our best year so far. We didn’t release a new game, but ported our existing games to consoles which was the best thing we could actually do. We collected a lot of experience there and know most of the pitfalls involved when developing and releasing on consoles now.
Furthermore we got approved as Stadia partner and also got nominated as best developer at the GDD Indie Game Award 2021.
2022 will be another big year for us with the upcoming Elemental War 2 release, which will be our biggest so far due to the many platforms we support, the start of our next project as well as a few other things.
Besides all that we’re also working on a few prototypes for new game ideas or just mechanics for future projects while waiting until we can start with our next game. But don’t know if you’ll ever see one of them.
Elemental War is quite old now (release in 2019), but we stilled worked a lot on it in 2021. We finally released the Xbox (okay, that actually happened in December 2020) and PlayStation 4 versions of the game, which turned out to be a very good idea.
As we worked on Elemental War 2 as our new project we encountered a few problems in Elemental War 1 as well we could easily backport. So we also released Elemental War 1.10.0 and Elemental War 1.10.1 on all platforms fixing these issues.

Elemental War 2
In 2021 we started development of Elemental War 2, our new tower defense game with quests, items, awesome graphics and sound and more. Just check out our announcement trailer for a rough first impression:
Elemental War 2 is – you might have guessed it already – the successor of Elemental War. We removed all things we or the players didn’t like or use (like the alliance system) and instead put our time in improving the parts of the game that were pretty cool in part 1 already.
In the end we focussed solely on Hero Mode, but improved it a lot. It has an end now, some towers got exchanged and rebalanced, there are plenty new quests and items and you can also play it in coop, which includes solving quests together (except for one). We also redid the whole graphics and audio and improved the UI to work a lot better with gamepad now.
The development of Elemental War 2 went very good so far and we’re very happy with the result. We just need to polish a few things a little more and finished the PlayStation 5 port, everything else is actually done. Btw, Elemental War 2 will be released on Steam and Humble Store (Windows, Linux, Mac), PlayStation 4 and 5 and Stadia. We can’t confirm the Xbox version yet, but hope to get that one out as well.
Now in 2022 we’re finishing PS5 (basically testing that version), polishing the remaining things and then we’ll release it. As usual we will provide patches if necessary, The release date announcement will happen as soon as we’re 100% sure we can reach it. But it looks very good.
We will also have a second playtest weekend from January 21st to 24th and will participate with a demo in the next Steam Next festival. So look out for chances to try Elemental War 2 out before release.
Spine also got a lot of attention in 2021 again, even though it was a little less in the past months as I was busy with Elemental War 2.
But in 2021 I added plenty of new features like automatic repair of broken downloads, basic Gothic 3 support, patching improvements and several developer related ones.
Of course I also fixed as many bugs as I could from those that got reported.
As I finished the Visual Studio 2019 upgrade of Spine I can finally start working on the UI upgrade. This will take quite a while, but maybe I’ll release partial stuff as well or some kind of beta/preview so you can try it out while I’m still working on it.
Anyway, the plan is to somewhen in 2022 have a 2.0 release ready with the new UI.
Also released in 2021 was Spine User Votes. That’s a tool for us to know what you would like to see most in Spine. We have several features in there you can vote on, but you can also submit own ideas that I will add (if I think they make sense).

Tri6: Infinite got the same treatment in 2021 as Elemental War. Even though already released in 2020 we released console ports for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in 2021 which were quite successful. We also released another update for all platforms afterwards with the most recent fixes and then Tri6: Infinite is now also available on the Humble Store.
And then, at the end of 2021, we got nominated for best audio at the GDD Indie Game Awards 2021!
